Generate Online Sales Fast with a Best Value eCommerce Solution
If you’ve had to close your shop, retail warehouse, restaurant or stop service delivery, now could be the right time to consider starting to sell online.
It’s been scary and stressful. Many of our small business clients have been badly affected so our work has slowed down a lot too. We know a little of how it feels and sympathise.
When some calm returns, you might want to consider taking more of your business online with ecommerce & digital processes.
Is eCommerce an opportunity for your business? Would it be a good short term solution as well as a long term investment that you can build on over time?
Online sellers are already reporting big uplifts in orders in these extraordinary lockdown times. Social media activity is at record levels.
Shift to online shopping. Online is becoming the channel of choice as consumers spend more time at home and there’s reason to believe that this behavior shift will endure at some level. Looking at China, which has endured the effects of COVID-19 for longer than the US, consumers have indicated that the rapid changes in shopping habits are likely to stick (eg, more than 55 percent of Chinese consumers are likely to permanently buy more groceries online). (McKinsey, April 2020)
Real Marketing can advise you on the eCommerce platform that’s best for your business and help you set it up, fast and very cost effectively. Our team has worked with the eCommerce platforms below over many years. McKinsey agrees that moving into ecommerce is much faster than many believe:
We have found that companies can create a working e-commerce site in much less time than they think. In fact, a poor understanding of what’s really possible with digital can be one of the most significant hinderances to moving quickly.

We may also be able to achieve a similarly fast solution with WooCommerce but these setups may take a little longer, so you’ll be advised of timescales.
While Shopify may be best known for ecommerce, the market leader for online sales is WooCommerce from WordPress. And, you may well have a WordPress website because nearly half the websites on the internet are run on WordPress. However, Ecwid is easy to set up across websites and social media and is good value, so well worth considering.
WooCommerce – Market Leader and Good for SEO
WooCommerce works with WordPress and is the most popular platform with 26% market share (top million eCommerce websites, BuiltWith.com).
It works with WordPress to turn any website into a fully functioning ecommerce online shop. Also, there are extensions available for integrating payment gateways, social media, email marketing, 1-click selling, and shipping. Everything you need.

It’s easy to install and learn, and, as an open source platform, the basic version is free. It is highly customizable and there is a 1-click selling app.
WordPress is the best platform for SEO which is a really important strength. However, you need to check whether you have the Yoast plugin for SEO as we recommend this.
Your project would involve:
- A review of your existing website with report provided.
- Quick overview of onsite SEO and whether Yoast SEO plugin already being used.
- Update WordPress Core and plugins, where necessary.
- Ideally, a development environment would be set up.
- Install and configure WooCommerce.
- Add products for launch.
- Provide WooCommerce training so that you can add products yourself and manage your own onsite SEO.
There are optional facilities which you may want, such as setting up a separate website development environment, adding more payment platforms and installing Yoast SEO. These add to the installation cost, but would be separately costed.
